Antipolo Cathedral

Friday, May 1, 2015

National Shrine of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage (Nuestra Senora de la Paz y Buen Viaje), also known as Antipolo Church, is usually the first stop when exploring Antipolo City. Starting your day with prayers and mass is a good gesture. We should always thank Him for all the blessings. The fact that you reached a destination safe and sound is a reason to be grateful no matter what problems you may be facing.

The Antipolo Cathedral is home of Antipolo's renowned miraculous icon, the Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage (Nuestra SeƱora de la Paz Y Buenviaje). Located at the center of the City’s Poblacion, the church is the perfect place to pray for a safe journey. (antipolo.ph)

Every month of May, the legendary town of Antipolo becomes a beehive of activity and vibrancy as thousands, from all walks of life, flock to this lovely place amongst the hills. To the lilting tune of native songs, people come to this town, primarily to pay homage to the miraculous Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage and, secondly, to take a breather from the heat and dust of the summer months amidst Antipolo's refreshing mountain air, rippling streams and springs. THE FACADE

The facade of the church is picturesque. I had many poses with it. (That's the typical Sheena!)

INSIDE THE CATHEDRAL

The Antipolo Cathedral, built by the Jesuits between 1630-1633, damaged during the earthquakes of 1645, 1824 and 1883.

CANDLE OFFERINGS

Going back outside, you can offer candles and prayers.

PORTALETS, LOCALS, and PINOY DELICACIES

We strongly believe that when you the good in a person, pass the goodness, it will circulate. Kuya Nonoy cheerfully assisted us that time. In return, we bought delicacies from his store. My mom was happy to eat the suman.

If you are an avid fan of cashew nuts or kasoy, Antipolo is your heaven. I've seen many cashew nut sellers. :)

PARKING

Just outside the church, if you are lucky to spot a space, parking your car is free. However, if luck is not in your hands, you can have pay parking. Don't worry. It's safe there since it is a private parking lot.

Driving From Manila:
(source: xplorerboyz blogspot)

(1) via Ortigas Extension, from Edsa Ortigas, straight ahead up to IPI, crossing of Tiendisitas and to Libis, drive straight Oritgas Extension Highway, (you'll passby some landmarks like St. Joseph Church and Ever Gotesco (Ortigas) and your approaching Cainta Junction, just drive straight (KM21, Ortigas Ext.) and you'll be in Tikling just drive straight up, do not turn right because you'll be in Taytay way. As you drive up the hill you'll see the Hamaka Park and New Rizal Provincial City Hall, make a left turn and drive straight you can see the Antipolo Church.

(2) via Sumulong highway, from Makati make your way to Marcos Highway on C5 then choose ilalim C5-Kalayaan flyover where you also pass by St. Claire. Drive straight Marcos Highway, right Sumulong Highway (landmark : Masinag Wet and Dry Market to the left). Drive along the highway (you'll pass Valley Golf and Country Club), head straight at the junction (with signs going to Baras and Hinulugang Taktak). you may ask some of the locals signaling you where to go since there are so many one way streets and map is not always available.

TIPs:
1. Use the Google Maps application. It was so cool to use because as you drive, there is a voice guiding you.
2. Bring water and umbrella. Stay hydrated.
3. Of course, dress properly. :)

This is a long post. Thank you for reaching this far. I promise to post more about our Antipolo destinations such as Hinulugang Taktak, Pinto Art Museum, Mystical Cave, and Cafe Siena.
